International Sign Association Unveils New Branding Concurrent with Office Relocation

ALEXANDRIA, VA - The International Sign Association (ISA) moved on May 27 to a new location, just a few blocks from where it had been located, and unveiled a refreshed brand identity to mark the occasion.

Now located at 1001 North Fairfax Street in Alexandria, Va., the association’s new headquarters incorporates many of the latest “green” design techniques, including such features as low energy fluorescent and LED lighting, glue-free carpeting and workstations that are Greenguard certified, which means the product has been tested to ensure its chemical and particle emissions meet acceptable Indoor Air Quality pollutant guidelines and standards.

The relocation also offered ISA a unique opportunity to showcase the work of some of its members from film for the walls and interior signage to artwork and wallpaper. ISA thanks its members, whose generous contributions have helped to give the new offices a distinct, “sign industry” appeal:

  • 3M Commercial Graphics Division Film for the walls
  • APCO Graphics, Inc. Interior signage
  • SIGN BIZ, Inc. Artwork and wallpaper
  • Trav-Ad Signs, Inc. Printing the design on film
“Early on, the group collectively agreed the office relocation was a perfect opportunity for ISA to make a statement on behalf of the larger industry, in essence to say, ‘We are the face of the sign industry, and we care about environmental issues that are affecting businesses on a global level,’” said ISA President and CEO Lori Anderson.

Simultaneous with the office move, ISA unveiled a new brand identity. The fresh look for the association comes as a result of the findings of an extensive communications audit conducted in late 2007. The logo was designed to be versatile for many uses in print and online and replaces a brand identity originally developed in 1995, to coincide with the organizational name change from NESA (National Electric Sign Association) to ISA. With the exception of a minor change in typeface, the ISA logo, until now, has remained essentially the same for more than 13 years.

“Throughout the re-branding process, our goal was to collaborate with our members and the board to develop a logo that would reflect the industry’s flair for innovation and also be representative of all segments of the multi-faceted sign industry,” said Laurie Kusek, ISA’s director of communications and marketing. “The finished product is contemporary, and straightforward, yet it maintains a cutting-edge feel.”
