Wide LCD Screen for Industrial Applications

Wide aspect ratio LCD screens are becoming more popular for various applications. In the past 2 to 3 years, we have seen them being used in notebook/laptop computers, handheld portable displays, Home Entertainment, large desktop monitors, and OR displays.

Various LCD panel manufacturers have different views in regards to the life span of the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio LCD panels. Panel sizes that will be evaluated are most likely the 4:3 aspect ratio sizes of 6.5” to 15”. While some LCD panel manufacturers have not committed to a specific time of phasing out production of the 4:3 aspect ratio panels, others have projected to discontinue production of the 4:3 aspect ratio sizes within the next 3 to 5 years.

For the short term, Caltron’s LCD suppliers will continue to support the 4:3 aspect LCD panels. We will continue to monitor the trends closely and will post updates in our web site. Future products from Caltron will include large wide aspect ratio LCD open frame monitors starting in Q2 of 2008. The first product in this category will be our FBT-2206, a 22” wide screen open frame monitor. Orders will be accepted in April for sample units. Other wide screen open frame products being added will be a 19” size and a 17” size. Further details to come.
