Out of Home Ad Revenue Grows 8.0% in 2006
Washington, DC Out of home advertising industry revenue grew 8.0% in 2006, accounting for $6.8 billion in total spending, which is up from $6.3 billion from the prior year.
“The industry’s growth remained strong all year with revenue increases higher than most traditional media,” said Stephen Freitas, chief marketing officer for the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. “Out of home remains the second fastest growing ad segment behind the Internet.”
Out of home media performance was notably up in six of the top ten advertising categories for the year. The Insurance & Real Estate category was the fastest growing segment with gains of 26.2% due in large part to accelerated advertising in real estate markets responding to declining home sales.
The Communications category grew nearly as fast with a 25.7% increase over the previous year. The Local Services & Amusement category experienced strong growth increasing 16.4% and was the category with the highest growth in dollar volume.
The Public Transportations, Hotels & Resorts category rose 12.0%, the Retail category increased 8.0%, and the Restaurant category grew 6.3% over last year.
