SGIA Members Save Big with Yellow Discount Program

Average savings reached $398 per shipment, $8,971 per company

Fairfax, Virginia — SGIA corporate members slashed nearly $7 million off of their shipping costs in 2006 with SGIA’s discount program on Yellow Transportation’s less-than-truckload shipping services.

More than 750 members in the United States and Canada last year sent 16,974 shipments through this lucrative program, reducing their annual LTL shipping costs with Yellow by an average $8,971.

This corporate members-only program saves participants 64 percent off the published rates of inbound and outbound (long- and short-haul) LTL shipping. It also provides thousands of dollars in savings on other Yellow shipping services. (Visit SGIA.org/yellow for more details)

“It’s a significant amount of savings,” said Jim Covert, President of SGIA member Magnetic Concepts Corp., which typically spends $3,000 to $6,000 weekly with Yellow.

“We were able to get better rates with SGIA’s program than the local Yellow reps could offer, so it’s been very beneficial for us,” Covert said.

SGIA member Renze Display has also cashed in on the discount program. The graphic applications company, which sends about 99 percent of its shipping through Yellow, shaved more than $230,000 off its shipping bill last year.

“I’m not in the accounting department, but I do see the invoices, and it’s a substantial saving for us,” said Donna Woolery, Traffic Coordinator, who handles Renze’s traffic and shipments.
