Laurie Kerr to Give Keynote Address at LIGHTCongress 2007
Senior Policy Advisor in the New York City Mayor's Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability to Headline Lighting Industry Conference
New York, NY - Laurie Kerr, Senior Policy Advisor in the New York City Mayor's Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability, will give the keynote address at LIGHTCongress 2007, the lighting industry's annual forum that brings together world leaders in lighting, design, architecture, academia and engineering to discuss the important trends and issues affecting the industry.
The keynote address by Ms. Kerr is the first presentation at LIGHTCongress, which is sponsored by SYLVANIA, the North American lighting leader. The event is slated for March 13, 2007 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City.
"I am honored to act as keynote for LIGHTCongress 2007, the premier annual lighting symposium which brings together the industry's best and brightest to discuss the latest innovations, technological advancements and trends affecting the commercial, residential and consumer sectors," Kerr said. "This year's emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainable design is particularly timely in light of Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC-2030," she added.
Kerr is responsible for developing various aspects of the city's plan for 2030, PlaNYC-2030, with a particular emphasis on achieving a 30 percent reduction in global warming emissions and the greening of the city government.
Jeff Johnston, CEO of Greystone Partners, organizers of the event, commented, "We are thrilled that Laurie Kerr will lead off this year's LIGHTCongress. Her experience as an architect, as well as her leadership and expertise in the area of sustainability, make her a perfect fit for this year's symposium."
Kerr is a registered architect and a LEED(r) accredited professional. She has 20 years experience as an architect in the private sector, 10 of which were spent managing her own firm in New York City. Much of her work has involved renovations of the city's historic building fabric, leading her to a particular interest in the relationship between existing buildings, traditional urbanism, and sustainable design. Kerr's writing on architectural issues has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Slate, and Architectural Record.
