7th Annual Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards Tags Year’s Best Outdoor Advertisers

Showtime/The Red Group and Starcom receive accolades for Best Billboard and Best Tall Wall

 

July 28, 2006 – West Hollywood, CA – The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recognized a number of creative professionals behind outdoor advertising at the 7th Annual Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards on Thursday, July 27th at the House of Blues in West Hollywood.

 

Showtime, Sony Pictures/Art Machine, Disney, Laird and Partners, Tiffany & Company, and CBS are among the winners. (Full account of categories, nominees and winners below.)

 

The Chamber established the Sunset Strip/Times Square Billboard Awards to honor creative excellence and artistic achievement in outdoor advertising design. The criterion includes creativity and strength of original concept; overall art direction and implementation; and consideration of format. 

 

Entries were judged by a panel of industry experts including executives from Ogilvy & Mathers, MacDonald Media, McCann Erickson, OMG, Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks, House of Blues Entertainment, and Times Square Alliance.

 

Sunset Strip Billboards

 

Consumer Goods & Services Award:  Domino Magazine advertisement “Play House” by HEAT with Art Director Abba Rowland and Creative Director Steve Stone on Clear Channel Outdoor. 

 

Also nominated were: Outdoor Vision’s “Gift” for Sav-On Drugs; TBWA Chiat Day’s “Altima” for Nissan; TBWA Chiat Day’s “Wow” for Nissan; W.B. Doner’s “End of Late Fees” for Blockbuster.

 

Beverage Award:New Orleans” for Southern Comfort by Arnold Worldwide with Art Director James Adame and Creative Director Mark Ray on Clear Channel Outdoor.

 

Also nominated were: Posterscope USA/Outdoor Vision’s “OJ Found Guilty” for Vitaminwater; Brown Forman Advertising’s “Born in New Orleans” for Southern Comfort; Busch Media’s “Budweiser” for Budweiser; Brown Forman Advertising’s “Turning Nights into Stories” for Jack Daniels; and Coca Cola’s “Skinny Latte This”.

 

Fashion Award: Tiffany & Company advertisement “Gift” by Tiffany & Company with Art Director Denise Valez and Creative Director Karen Silveira on Clear Channel Outdoor.

 

Also nominated were: YMI Jeanswear’s three ads, “Brunette,” “Winter” and “Blonde”.

 

Movies Award: Sony Pictures advertisement “Deuce Bigalow” by Sony Pictures/Art Machine with Art Director Mark Walker and Creative Director Loren Schwartz (Jeremy Kaplan, Assoc. Creative Director) on Clear Channel Outdoor.

 

Also nominated were:  US International Media’s “Bloodrayne” for Romar Entertainment; Fashion Creative’s “Four Brothers” for Paramount Pictures.

 

Television Award: CBS Television Network advertisement “Elvis” by CBS Television Network with Art Director Tamara Perumean and Creative Director Brad Johnson on CBS Outdoor.

 

Also nominated were: Rainbow Media’s “Z Channel” for IFC; Showtime/The Red Group’s “Reefer Madness”; Showtime/The Red Group’s “Weeds”; CBS Television Network’s “CSI-Miami”; Rainbow Media’s “Dinner for Five” for IFC; OMD New York’s “Rome” for HBO; Donald Media’s “Pompeii” for Discovery Channel.

Television Award: Showtime advertisement “Fat Actress” by Starcom Worldwide with Art Director Todd Heughens and Creative Director Larry Merritt on CBS Outdoor.

 

Also nominated were: BLT & Associate’s “Entourage” for HBO; USA Network’s “Ring of Fire”; and Outdoor Vision’s “Human Trafficking” for Lifetime.

 

Movies Award: Disney advertisement “Chicken Little” by Disney with Art Director Arnaldo D'Alfonso and Creative Director John Blas on SkyTag.

 

Also nominated were: Disney’s “Narnia” and “Casanova.”

 

Times Square Billboards

 

Fashion: Roca Wear advertisement “Woman” by Roca Wear with Art Director Marc Seliger and Creative Director Giovanni Russo on CBS Outdoor.

 

Also nominated was: Roca Wear’s ad, “JayZ”

 

Consumer Goods & Services Award: Garnier Fructis advertisement “Long & Strong” by Publicis New York/OOH Pitch with Art Director Amy Wegenaar and Creative Director Josiane Ohana on Clear Channel Spectator.

 

Also nominated were: R/GA & Jack Morton’s “Downtown” for Bank of America; Mindshare’s “Yes You Can” for Sprint; BBDO’s “60 Days of Daylight” for Smithwick’s.

 

Entertainment & Leisure Award: Air Tahiti advertisement “NYC to Tahiti” by Saatchi & Saatchi with Art Director Rob Perillo and Creative Director Sarah Barclay on Clear Channel Spectator.

 

Also nominated were: Pulse Advertising’s “Zorro” for Sony Pictures; Media Com’s “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory” for Warner Bros.

 

Alternative Award: iPod advertisement “Dancing Woman” by Apple iPod with Art Director Susan Alinsangan and Creative Director Duncan Milner & Eric Grunbaum on CBS Outdoor.

 

Billboard of the Year: Showtime advertisement “Weeds” by Showtime/The Red Group with Art Director Michael Hathaway and Creative Director Larry Merritt on CBS Outdoor.
