World Famous Hollywood Bowl Enhances Facilities with Daktronics ProStar® Video Technology

BROOKINGS, S.D. - Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., recently delivered a new ProStar® light emitting diode (LED) video display to the renowned Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, Calif., one of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world. Recently named “Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue” for the second year in a row by Pollstar magazine, the Hollywood Bowl chose to upgrade its signage as part of continued improvements at the venue.

The new two-sided ProStar® video display, sold and installed by Electra-Vision Advertising Corp. of Claremont, Calif., replaces an incandescent display system with wedge-based lens technology. It was built, delivered and installed in time for the 28th annual Playboy Jazz Festival and the opening night of the Hollywood Bowl’s summer season.

“Daktronics delivered the display in an aggressive timeframe, as promised,” said Mark Ladd, assistant director of operations at the Hollywood Bowl. “We would highly recommend Daktronics, as this has been a very positive experience for us.”

The Hollywood Bowl’s new 20 millimeter ProStar® video display, with an active area of approximately 5 feet tall by 15 feet wide, stimulates audiences by presenting information, pictures and graphics promoting sponsors and upcoming acts in 4.4 trillion colors.

“This went from a standard monochrome sign with limited capabilities to an absolutely fabulous display,” commented George Saelzler, president of Electra-Vision Advertising Corp. “The installation process was flawlessly coordinated and the display was installed ahead of schedule. Daktronics really came through and pulled out all the stops.”

ProStar® technology available only from Daktronics, uses the latest in red, green and blue (RGB) LED technology to present live and recorded video images, colorful animations and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide angle visibility. ProStar® LED video display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come. The new video display is operated with Daktronics’ proven Venus® controller. The Venus® 7000 controller creates, organizes, and displays content, including text messages, graphics, animation and video clips on the ProStar® display. Daktronics is recognized as the world’s leading provider of full-color LED video displays, with more than 2,400 video displays sold and installed worldwide.

About the Hollywood Bowl
Nestled snugly in the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood Bowl is the largest natural amphitheater in the United States. Seating nearly 18,000 patrons, the Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and presents outdoor concert performances each summer featuring classical, jazz and world music presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s concerts. Attendance figures over the past several decades have soared: in 1980 the Bowl first topped the half-million mark and last summer, close to one million admissions were recorded. The Bowl’s summer music festivals have become as much a part of Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers and Disneyland. The Bowl grounds themselves one of Los Angeles County’s most renowned parks are open year-round for visitors to enjoy free of charge.
